In the three years that I've covered the UAAP basketball tournament I've never made any acquiantances with any of the Fighting Maroons hoops squad [got some friends from the UP football and softball teams though] or any of the UP Pep Squad members [Eagles, Archers, Tigers, Falcons, and Tamaraws - I always end up chatting with someone, albeit small talk or whatever, every single playdate - That's just me].
Last Saturday, I approached Nesza Salvador [one of the most popular in the UP Pep Squad] - She won the Samsung Stunner Award last year at the UAAP CDC [Cheerdance] competition], showed her a image I took oh her way back 2010 [to break the ice] and simply requested a group photo of her and some of the UP Pep Squad teamates. This during the 30-45 minute break where the judges were busy deliberating on the Final Results of the CDC. Took a few snaps, asked their names, said Thank You - then proceeded back to the court.
To get to this point, where the UP Pep Squad has made it three years straight as Cheerdance Champions - The Team members must have given up a whole lot [in the last 3 years] and still do - to maintain their level of excellence.
