Sports Photojournalists

Orange is the New Black ...

..... at least, as far as the duly accredited photographers' vests covering the AFC
{Azkals vs DPR Korea} football match last Tuesday night {Rizal Stadium} were concerned - whatever.

Behind-the-Scenes people photography - How do i decide, arbitrate - who, which subjects to shoot, and when - and in what fashion ----

{  papaano ang deskarte ko, considering how very particular i am with my "snapshots",
on-the-spots, spur-of-the-moment, on-a-whim photos - if i may call them that ?  }

---- will i photograph them ??

It is a very subjective set of criteria, that's one thing for sure - It has a lot to do with instinct, noticing things/details in the environment, more so the Quality of the Light, the Shadows and Highlights in the environs -  on a Manner of Speak - again, whatever !

Suffice it to say - I have fun and constant challenge just shooting these type of photos -
Unscripted, Unplanned, Unsolicited - opps that simply present themselves, and/or opps that I "create myself", on occasion.

Oops ! - Sori, Mark, at na-chop-chop ang ulo mo !
Bawi naman ako sa solo - OK lang pre  ?!

mabigat ang gamit pero magaan ang loob

Simply Not Giving Up

Tuesday night at Rizal Stadium

Again -
Sports as the Great Metaphor for Life
The  Gratifying, the Uplifting, and the Enriching Moments   ...

No, this is not a game recap though it easily appears to be.  [I'm no sports writer, just a blogger who likes to share some images [some game stats] - and articulate an opinion or two - occasionally].

Coming into last night's AFC Match at the Rizal [ Phil Azkals vs DPR Korea ] - I had no real expectations, really, of what might happen [we all know that the ball is round] - But fast forward to the early, early part of the 2nd Half of the match, when Nokor went ahead by 1 -{2-1} -  - 'Twas just a very critical part of the match - I suddenly got this negative thought -  hey - that the Nokors are simply a World Cup Team that is a level, or two, above our boys
 - Reality Check !

- and that we all should not be surprised that the Nokors are now leading - considering still, of course, that there was a LONG 45 minute strech of "pukpukan" left for the Azkals to "save the day" - draw, at least - or maybe even win the match -

The momentum obviously shifted in favor of the Nokors and the Azkals faithful started feeling gradually uneasy as the seconds ticked by.

I'm never one to predict and I firmly believe that nothing is truly impossible, and so when the final whistle was blown - I simply wasn't that surprised [course if Nokor won, neither would I] that we completed a come-from-behind win.

Sports IS What Actually Happens !

and NOT what people, predict might happen, generally assume might, or could probably happen, or play for to happen. Right ?

First half images follow below :

The Azlkals had quite a number of intrusion,
and a few decent attempts in the first 40 or so minutes of the 1st Half.

 43rd minute - Game Changer

This attempt by Javier Patino [#20] actually hit the Nokor keeper's body, the ball then rebounding upwards. Veteran Misagh Bahadoran, who seemed to be "at the right place at the right time" - swopoed "out of nowhere" and headed [drilled] the ball in, the keeper getting caught flatfooted - or at least, that is how i remember, seeing it on instant replay, during the halftime break.

I didn't catch Misgah's header - fyi - just the fleeting celebtatory hugs, just seconds later.

Could have been a great  way to end the 1st Half [leading 1-0] but  ....

...at [45 + 1] came the game Equalizer by Nokor's So Kyong Jin [#14].
So, at the Halftime Break, 'twas a 1-all Draw.

---------

The feeling was a li'l different, at least mine was, coming into the 2nd Half.
I whispered to a media colleague of mine that Nokor now, "had our number", so to speak, and the Azkals were having little more difficulty with their offense.

Simone Rota's attempt goes awry

Late into the 2nd Half, James Younghusband 's energy
did show how determined and undaunted the boys were.

In just a ittle over five minute after James' entry,
the Azkals had a so much more Bite left.
The match was so, so so far from over

The Azkals fought tooth and nail, and eventually both teams would get their share of decent attempts and close ones, at that [missed opps, great saves and all].  But as I said Sports is - WHAT Actually Happens  - and as the pressure to equalize was all but to evidently mounting - Manny Ott and the Azkals found daylight and Bingo ! 1-all - 85th minute  !

My bad for me ! - I had just panned to Manny, but he had launched already.

Iain Ramsay is mobbed by his team mates - after his 90th minute goal !

 Final Score
 {Phil - 3      DPR Korea - 2}

Manny [goal #2 on the 85th],   Misagh [goal #1 on the 43rd],
Iain [goal #3 on the 90th]

Being Human

Sometimes Insane

{photo d'loaded fr the internet}

... and Yes, I feel pain too, every now and then ... and like everybody else
I experience occasional failure, frustration, rejection, disappointment, disillusionment [even self-doubt], mind you - In my private moments I've experienced temporary depression, anger [at others, at myself]  ..even sometimes just want to fall asleep - and never wake up - Now, how's that for revelation ?!

Although, of course feel the total opposite - Total Confidence, Extreme Joy, [being on top of the world] - euphoria etc every now and then,too {The "trick" being, having more of the latter, of course !}

Whatever - But if only because I take chances, gamble, go out on a limb or on a leap of faith, take challenges {personal and career} head on - then it is
"All {referring to - occasional pain, or negativity, that is} "Worth it"
in the Long Run - cos, as the saying goes

"It's only the chances you don't take that you'll ever regret"
and as they say too ...
"Success is Not a Matter of Avoiding Failure but rather
Repeatedly Overcoming Failure"

Wala lang - Just sharing  here - thinkin out loud, venting air ....Nothing New, really - still gotta loosen up here -> Settle Down, Reboot and All  .....

I'm as Human as you are -  Flesh and Blood - Heart and Soul.

A Wink and a Smile

- Too Talented  - Two of a Kind -
- Too Pretty ?-

pastel portrait

One uses a Canon while the other uses a Nikon.

One does artsy-fartsy,{bordering on the surreal} compelling imagery,
while the other shoots hard news.

One is from Manila while the other is from Mexico.

One has relatively short hair, the other has long, thick hair.
One is a bit chubby, the other one is on the slim side.
One is a bit short, the other is taller.
{ did i really have to say that?  ha

Both, No Doubt, show great skillz, and drive,
when it comes to photography.....

..... and last, but not the least

Both are just pretty !

hmmm - just like another talented tandem below

thank you for your odd moments
the humor - the quirky silences

thank you for being weird -

dear one
for never running out of things to say

thanx for the little things you notice
for the little things you feel

the simple details of your being
the constant imperfection i keep on seeing
yet keep on loving

the stuff that makes you real

thank you
for that glimpse of your soul
its wounds and its scars

thank you
 for heart
for daring to be awkward
and even daring to be weak

thank you for
constantly surprising me
in the most subtle of ways

for inspiring my art
come dusk,  come night
 come dawn,  come day

for daring to make mistakes
instead of faking to be perfect
