Killing Time with some UP Athletes

UP Film Center

Recently, on assignment [location] and due to a scheduling foul-up, I end up waiting [killing time] at the UP Film Center premises. Fortunately, while waiting I make the acquaintance of UP Judoka Jai Lawan and eventually bump into acquiantance Alfonso Ancheta [Footballer, Xavier High grad, now a UP Freshman] and Justin Depano [a two-time UAAP Football Champion from Season 72,73, and 74] minutes later.  Eventually, another UP athlete, this time a hoopster from the Fighting Maroons Team B, nicknamed Joko, comes into the "picture" and before I know it I'm talking college sports and UAAP with these young UP Jocks.

I even find out that Jai had actually competed with an acquiantance of mine from the Ateneo - a certain Judoka named Arlet Coronado [fresh grad, now working for Cravings] - during a previous UAAP Judo Tournament.

I had also seen and photographed several High School matches where Alfonso Ancheta did play and, since I started covering UAAP Football last SY 2008-2009, Season 72, [up to the present] I'm sure to have had, at least a few decent images of Justin Depano in action, and not only from that Season 72 but also from Season 73 & 74.  [Justin is not part of the team now].

Turns out too, that Justin was in a group shot [of UP Footballers] I took last October, 2011, during the Uni-Games at Roxas City !  Small world indeed !

So, such common "ground" simply makes it easier for us to engage in 

"college sports talk" for minutes on end.
