5th Weekend - Part 1

2nd Round
UAAP Men's Football Tournament
January 31, Thursday
Ateneo Campus

Eagles   vs   Tamaraws

Blue Eagles Stay Unbeaten

My 5th weekend "kicked off" yesterday, Thursday, at a UFL Press Brief at Panggo's Resto in Q.C. and 2 UAAP Football matches later at my alma mater. Witnessed a dramatic drawn football match where the erstwhile unbeaten Blue Eagles where in the verge of absorbing their first ever loss, [if ever] this Season 75 of the UAAP Men's Football Tourney, at the hands of second placers , the FEU Tamaraws.

Whoooz Numbah One ??

Came late, missed FEU's 1st Half goal [courtesy of Eric Giganto - 12th minute] - but, no matter - I was there the whole 2nd half - tensed up, on my toes for 45 or so minutes cursing and praying and clicking away at the same time Down into the last few minutes - my prayers were answered - No, Ateneo didn't win - they egualized - and at the final whistle the Blue and White remained King and on Top of the standings.

Equalizer by Carlo Liay
ADM - 1      FEU - 1

A few more action shots follow:

Eagle Eman Paredes miscalculates this one - ball goes wide to the left

Tamaraw in front, Tamaraw behind

Bugas vs Figueroa
These two guys have had a long history competing against each other - dating back to their High School days when both ADM & FEU won TWO UAAP Championships each. Ateneo won the Juniors Championship during SY (2008-2009) & SY (2009-2010) while FEU won it during SY (2010-2011) & SY (2011-2012).

Bugas  vs  Mabanag
Mabanag was also a major player in those UAAP Seasons where the Ateneo and FEU HSchool teams dominated.  At present, their storied rivalry is very much alive, now that both the Men's Team of Ateneo & FEU might possibly meet in the UAAP Championships again - this time, in the Men's Division

FEU president Mr. Anton Montinola's an acquiantance of mine [a good friend of my brother too] and I've supported/seen Master Kim and the Loyola Meralco Sparks through good [and bad times] last summer, in Singapore, and at the UFL - but come UAAP - it's a totally a different dynamic. [We're at opp sides]

Master Kim [yellow green] & FEU President Anton Montinola [light grey]
  vehemently protest a non-call - Hey guys - C'mon -- Don't be Pikon -

Take a good look at what actually happened - [My SLR's quicker than our eyes]

This is the play [photo above & below]
[that resulted in a bad fall by Amita [#20] - and a non call]

Be Afraid - Be very Afraid
Specially when Carlo Liay [#18] gets the advantage

An almost sure goal by FEU is cleared by "Pogi"
[as Lia Gandionco fondly calls #6 man Jico Noel]

This time, Noel bodies up on King Tamaraw -> Meliza,
preventing another a potential game winning goal by FEU

Meliza is tripled by Singson, Liay and Calvo

Noel and Tuazon gang up on Meliza
