Parting Shots

Last Team Huddles

Reality Check ->Losing Sucks - Plain and Simple.  { More so if one playing his last game/year for a team }. As if that isn't obvious.  Anyway, WHAT I really wanted to say
was ....

On the turf, Tiu talks to the team.

Last February 8, Saturday - the Ateneo Lady Eagles [in their last elim game] fought to extend their season ....... {Hoping to figure in the playoffs for another shot at the Finals - last year they were just a win away to getting a Finals slot, but they lost 4 straight games in a row in the elims, thus ending the season on a sad note } ....... They needed a Win -- a draw was NOT enough to forge a playoff match.  That Saturday match ended in a draw [1-1], officially knocking the Ladies in Blue out of the race, and sending the UST Lady Tigers to the Finals [vs the Defending Champion FEU Lady Tams]

Adri's Final Address, not surprisingly, draws tears.

The following Sunday morning, February 9, the La Salle Lady Booters played their last official elim game, vs the UP Fighting Lady Maroons [Archers were already out of contention, even before this  match].  Come Thursday, February 13, the Boys from Taft fought the FEU Tams, last year's Silver Medalists, to start their Final Four Campaign, wherein they had to beat FEU twice in row to get into the Finals vs the winner of the UP-UST Final Four Series, where UP had the twice-to-beat advantage.

The Defending Champion Blue Eagles, already out of the race, too, even before their last elim game vs UP, last February 9, listen to graduating keeper Yu Murayama's [#22]  parting messages.

So it came and went  - the Ateneo Lady Eagles, the La Salle Lady Booters, the Ateneo Mens' Team and the DLSU Mens' Team played their last games for UAAP Season 76 - and of course - Gely Tiu of Ateneo,  Adrianne "Adri" Yniguez, Yu Murayama and Coach Hans Smit had a few words to say before their Teams called it a season.

Coach Hans stresses a point, in his own inimitable style

This blog is not so much about what I hear, as much as it is about what I witness [visually] and how I present my images in an [hopefully] interesting way.

Gely Tiu, too, also played her last game for the Lady Eagles.

It's only your true friends that can make you laugh,
while you are still crying - Right ?

At one point in that last private team huddle, Gely Tiu said a few words that made "Camrod" [Camille Rodriguez]  and some of the Lady Eagles  giggle for a second or two  .....  amidst the tears.

Come Season 77, next year, the likes of Toni Nolasco [#2] [above] and Aina Martin [below], who will be in their third playing years, will have bigger "leadership roles".

Jill

Cecille Dayrit [above] and Milka Romero [below] now have all the time to consider wether they'll be suiting up or not, one last season for the Lady Eagles come Season 77.
