NU vs Ateneo - Round 2

August 24 - SMART Araneta
Mud in Their Wings
{ Bulldogs register 51%+ FG shooting and block Ateneo 10 Times }

I hear that Arwind Santos (once upon a time) registered 8 blocks in a match.  [Wether or not 'twas in the UAAP or PBA - I haven't found out yet, or wether somebody else has done better than that]

Kiefer Ravena is blocked by Joel Betayene.

During the First Half of the Bulldogs-Eagles match yesterday, Frank Aroga blocked Ateneo a record 8 times, while team mate Joel Betayene made two blocks, in the same time frame.

 { Unfortunately, I capture only one of the Bulldogs' 10 blocks - as I was under the NU basket in the First Half }

Matchwise, the NU Bulldogs shot 32 of 62 from the field {for a51.61% clip}, while Ateneo shot 23 out of 69 {for a 33.33% clip}.

With Great D and a Fine Shooting Touch - It's no surprise that Altamirano's boys repeated over  Perasol's  for a10-point 67-66 W [despite  a searing comeback by Ateneo, who came as close to 5 points - only to loose steam, in the end game] -- [NU's biggest lead was 18]

All the photos below [randomly arranged] are from the 2nd half, when the anticipated  Blue Eagle comeback came - The crucial point being - Ateneo coming as close as five points - only to loose momentum as the Bulldogs bite back with 6-7 unanswered points to regain control of the match.

Tenacious Bulldog D

{[#19] Besides having 8 blocks - Frank Aroga shoots 70% from the field !}
What a monster performance !

[#16] Gotladera's gutsy inside moves ["Fonso" scores 8 pts in the 4th Qtr.]
brings the Eagles to five points behind the Bulldogs.

[#15] Ravena, too, tries his damn best to lead the Eagles, but the Bulldogs are resilient enough to withstand the 4th Qtr Ateneo surge.

Final
NU - 76     Ateneo - 66

BTW,   Here are few huddle photos ,
 {at the height of the Ateneo rally in the 4th}
and a few CSR candids.

 It's tough on the CSRs too, everytime, they see their team lose
[Laura Lehmann {for Ateneo}, above
   Gianna Llanes  {for Adamson}, below]

Is an Adamson Win Wishful Thinking ???

Two pre-game candids of Gia Llanes [below]

I'm still hoping for an Adamson Win, truth be told.

Last Season 76, UP was winless and I couldn't help but notice how
Bea Fabregas [UP's CSR]  took it very emotionally.  Every team deserves a Validation of their Efforts [even if it's just a few wins] - Don't you think ?
