Determined to redeem himself after a lack-lustre game vs NU - prev --
Team Captain Kiefer Ravena is All-Business,
just minutes before the match vs FEU.
After three straight wins, Arvin Tolentino finally tasted defeat,
at the hands of the NU Bulldogs [July 26].
Now, minutes before his fifth game, as a Blue Eagle,
the rookie quietly mentally prepares himself for another big match.
FYI - For purposes in this blog post [by broken plays - I'm referring to - blocks, fumbles, botched plays, drives -etc. - simply because I don't have a good number of actual broken plays] - Honestly, I just want the title to sound catchy - Ha !
[#12] Mark Belo SWATS the ball as rookie sensation
[#13] Arvin Tolentino skies.
- Chris vs Chris -
[#11] Chris Newsome fouls [#13] Chris Tolomia real hard !
[#16] Fonso Gotladera and [#4] Carl Cruz try to outhustle each other.
Von Pessumal loses control and plows into the ringside seats !
[above and below]
In the last seconds, [#6] Roi Sumang drives and elevates !
He misses on close range,
the shot that could have sent the game into OT !
the shot that could have sent the game into OT !
August's first Sunday sees two UAAP doubleheaders being decided by 2 points [NU vs UE], and 3 points [ADM vs FEU].
The more foreboding, demoralizingly painful loss, that being of the Red Warriors, who, after winning their first two outings have lost three straight --- Pumaren's charges lost by 2 points to DLSU [July 27] and 2 points to NU [just yesterday] --- Their loss to FEU [July 30] was by 10.
Having three losses midway in Round 1 of the elims gives UE a 20% Win-Loss ratio - putting them on 6th place.

The Warrior Weeps.

from yesterday's doubleheader .....
Minutes before the FEU-UE match, my UAAP buddy ->Randy Javier [known him since 2010] [Chris Javier's dad] sits uneasy behind the UE bench. The Warriors simply have to find a away to halt their two-game losing skid !! - To think that they have to face FEU, Ateneo and UST [three very tough teams] in the next 10 days !
During the Warrior-dominated 1st Quarter,
Kyle Neypes can only sigh in frustration, during a timeout.
This blog has been punctuated by "endless" candids of another UAAP colleague of mine, Lyane Ocampo - She's always sweet and smiley when I photograph her - Not in this one, tho. When it's time to concentrate on her tasks at hand - Lyane puts her game face on.
Erika Alcantara, photographer AND Archer die-hard [more often than not - the life of the baseline ! - so to speak ] -{she's always engaged in animated conversation with somebody [anybody!], each time she's "nakapuesto" sa baseline }. Catch Erika in a perplexed moment here.
Midway in the 4th Qtr, Coach Derek Pumaren makes sure veterans Mammie and Sumang are well rested for the end-game, whilst hoping the Warriors on-court keep it close - very close with the Bulldogs.
.
Immediately after the final buzzer ends the match,
Nico Javelona trots towards the UE side
to console Roi Sumang. [photo below]
How does one console the inconsolable ??
