Exactly 51 weeks ago last year, May 5 [to be exact] the Jr.NBA selected 10 of the best 10-14 year old hoopsters from the archipelago - after a 3-day boot camp. This year very similarly, the Jr. NBA Training Camp also commenced at the UP Gym [April 26, Friday] and culminated at the Mall of Asia [April 28, Sunday].

A total of 40 players, aged 10-14, were selected from Dagupan, Davao, Lucena, Manila, and the Alaska Power camp [earlier this month] for this 3-day camp. The number was narrowed down to the Top Ten yesterday, Sunday, at the Mall of Asia - after a series of matches. These 10 promising hoopsters will then be trained by the Jr. NBA to compete against Jr. NBA stars from other Asian countries very soon.

Here are a few action shots featuring some of the the Top Twenty,

which by 1-2 pm, had already been selected from the original Top 40.

Sunday morning had some members of the media engage in some basketball - simply for the love of the game - [photo below] before an exhibition match among between Team Jolas vs Team Muggsy [composed of High School and College varsity players]

The more important matches - where original select 40 [aged 10-14] youngsters participated in - came later - after lunch [whern the Top 40 had already been cut down in half to 20. Then, each and every one of the 20 was given ample minutes playing time during anoter 32-minute match in order for the coaches to be able to decide which 10 players would be the best among the original 40.
