For a portrait to be good the subject doesn't strictly have to look at the camera. Some of my favorite images are actually "no-look" portraits. Except for the first image below, the rest of the portraits in this post are "no look".

I shot this image between takes, as Rikki's TV crew was making sound checks and white balance readings. Seemingly mundane moments can speak volumes when captured - if one's instincts are "sharp" enough - but one has to move very fast -- lest the moods and moments disappear.
