2nd Weekend

Game Faces, Game Changers, and Match Points -

Uneasy Lies The Crown

The second week of 2013 was kind of a drag [too many business matters pending] for me [first ftwo days lang naman] - but by the weekend, things picked up [as they always do, for me] - and by Sunday night - I had lots more sports [and some - more personal] memories "in the bag"  - with enough material [sports, that is] to share in this blog.

Dinner at Ayala Alabang on Friday night, and UAAP Ladies' Volleyball last Saturday at the Arena.  NU played UP and, of course, the Defending Two-Time Champions Lady Archers and the Silver Medalists Lady Eagles met again for the first time since their last encounter [Feb.25, 2012] [DLSU won the Crown - back-to-Back].  Ateneo [6W-0L] was at First with La Salle [5W  1L] at Second, as of game time.

Come Sunday, I caught the 2nd Half of another rematch of sorts, where the UST Lady Tigers played the Ateneo Lady Eagles [football], then I proceeded to watch the Blue Eagles take on the Fighting Maroons [Men's football] and finally ended up at the SMART Araneta for Game #3 [of the PBA Philippine Cup] between Talk N text and Rain or Shine Finals Series   [TnT- 2   RoS- 0],
as of game time.

FYI [The UST-ADM Womens' Football Match 1st Rnd encounter - last Dec.16 - is featured in this blog - about two entries previous]

 Now, Back to the L Archers - L Eagles Volleyball Match .   .   .
   and some stolen "game faces"
[the action images will be feat in a sep post]

Mary For You
Juami, Bacon, Nico know how it feels to win UAAP Gold - How much do they ache to see their Womens' Volleyball counterparts eventually win a Crown is probably masked in their optimistic smiles.

When I arrived at the Arena, even before the NU-UP match started, the Lady Eagles and Lady Archers were already in their dugouts - This was going to be a Big Match where the motivation of both Teams were probably at their highest, yet.  -  Focus - Focus - Focus !! and get psyched up early on !!!  As for me - being relegated to "fixed press seat" I simply had find a way to get the right angles to capture the serious demeanor of the team players during the game.

No need for captions - OK?

  Game Changer ?
ADM looked bound for a sweep [2 sets to 0 sets by DLS]- but the Lady Archers bounced back to win 2 straight sets in a row to equalizeMurphy's law then reared its ugly head, when  Fille Cinglet[#15] had to be pulled out in the end of the 4th Set [DLS-24    ADM-21] , after a bad fall. Ateneo then had to manage [tough to do] the 5th Set without Cainglet.

The Ball Is Round, Yes -
But entering Set #5, the Lady Archers clearly had the psychological advantage. They had risen from the grave [2 sets down], and now Ateneo's Cainglet was out due to a bad fall.  Could Ateneo finish what they started - Could La Salle just hold steady and prevail ??  [This was clearly the most suspenseful Womens' match of Season 75 to date - the Top Two Contenders in a first to reach 15 Set #5 -  Woo Hooo !!]

This [below] is the only action image in this post.

Match Point  !!!
After five gruelling sets DLSU finally prevails  [15-13]
This point is scored by Michelle Gumabao [not in image]
