Third Time's Not a Charm

Last March, at the UAAP Finals, the Ateneo Lady Eagles lost to the De La Salle Lady Spikers. Last May, at the Shakeys V-League 1st Conference Finals, the Ateneo  Lady Eagles lost again, this time, to the NU Lady Bulldogs.  Yesterday, Sunday, at the deciding Game #3 of the Shakeys V-League 2nd Confernce Finals, the SMART-Maynilad Net Spikers lost to the Cagayan Lady Rising Suns.

Guess what ? As if you didn't know - Alyssa Valdez played in all those three Championship Series - as a Lady Eagle, twice, and as a Net Spiker, once - and ended up with Three  Silver Medals.   Now - As if I knew how it might even begin to feel - 'Tmust have been heartbreaking [at the very least] for the talented, promising young college star.

 How can I even begin to empathize, not even being ever a part of any varsity team at all, through my grade school , high school, and even college days ??

All I can do is try give a face to what thoughts, sentiments and emotions Alyssa - OR ANY athlete going through a similar experience - might have to deal with - through my photography.

In the four years I've covered UAAP College Tournaments - I've seen the likes of Alex Nuyles, Lester Alvarez, Jerich Canada, The Fab Five of AWV { Cainglet/Gervacio/Ferrrer/Nacachi/Ho }, RR Garcia, Terrence Romeo, and, as of late Emmanuel Mbe, Clark Bautista, Jerich Teng - up close and personal - leave their College Careers - w/ a "certain degree of disappointment"- Well, at least, that's one of many ways of describing a scenario - where one's hopes for a college championship are punctuated by a season-ending, last-ever-college-game knockout loss.

At least, as far as Alyssa Valdez is concerned, she still has three playing years with the Lady Eagles, [as a college student-athlete standout] to win a UAAP and/or a Shakeys V-league Gold Medal. 

 I'll be there when that happens !
