Game 7 -> San Mig vs Petron

From Thirty
to Three Hundred

I "dropped by" the SMART Araneta yesterday, Friday, to witness San Mig Coffee and Petron clash for the PBA Governors' Cup Crown.  "Sometime during the game",  I took lots of pictures - haha.  FYI - San Mig won this one [87-77]

Everybody wanted a "piece of the action" At the least, that's what 22,000 plus fans came to the coliseum for.

It's SRO way all the way up to the bleachers section

As`far as photographers, like me, were concerned, 'twas another "championship photo opp", so to speak, where we were all challenged, again to get great shots.

In a  Game 7 scenario - It is easier said than done - to think that, once the end-game buzzer sounds, ALL the photogs literally converge on the playing court to try to capture the immediate [intense] emotion that is released [from the winning and losing teams] on the court.  It IS every photographer to himself [no time for niceties here].

Even with 5.1 ticks left, some San Mig Coffee athletes started whooping it up [even entering the playing court].  [Twelve chronoligically sequenced images follow below]

In the first initial, frenzied moments of a championship, one just has to be quick, fast and sharp w/ practically no room for error [not even a micro second pause] - lest one miss a shot.

Once Game 7 Hero Marc Pingris knelt on the court
There was a mad dash to capture his release of emotion
[up close and personal] !!

Everybody's DSLRs were in servo [motor drive] mode,
as the action was fast, furious and fleeting

And in a matter of seconds - it was done !- Pingris started to pick himself up -
Everybody, then, left Mark to look for other swiftly unfolding "sub-plots",
so to speak -  ALL happening at the same time.

A few game shots here :

A Totally Forgettable Friday
That's what it was for the Conference MVP - Arwind Santos - [#29]
After 39 minutes on court- he managed only 7 pts.

With barely 33 ticks left on the game clock, Marc Pingris dashed to get to a loose ball, only to fall flat on his tummy over some photographers on the baseline.

Actually, 'twas hilarious, the photogs were just laughing it all up after !

Game wise, It was  pretty much a done deal, by then, because San Mig
was still on top by 7 pts.  Only a miracle would have saved Petron.

During the late post-game dinner I had with six other photographers, my buddy Mark Cristino said he had taken a total of ONLY 30 or so game /action shots [now, that's quite unusual] - but come after the celebrations/awardings on court - his CF cards had already about 300 JPEGs [now, that's normal]Each to his own - kanya-kanyang diskarte naman yan - sa pag cover ng sporting event.

James Yap seems to like girls whose names start with "K"

Wether a photographer takes thirty, a hundred, three hundred, or a thousand plus JPEGs in a championship game is his OWN call.  As long as he gets the job done - satisfies the photo requirements of his bosses/clients - It's all good.

Finals MVP Marc Pingris
