Never Giving Up

It's When You're Hardest Hit
that You Should Not Quit
{Sports as the Great Metaphor for Life}

- A Few Photos from the Fifth Set -

"Quitters Never Win and Winners Never Quit" ..... "The Darkest Time of Night is Just Before Dawn" ... Yes, we've all read/heard that so many, many times over - Haven't we ?

 What about  "It's Not Over 'Til It's Over"  or  "The Ball Is Round" ?

Besides her 22 points,
 Bernadeth Pons made this great save that kept the ball alive.
 {This was during that deciding fifth and final set.}
{ 3-frame sequence here }

Yup, reading a quotable quote is one thing, hearing it verbally said is another thing. But to see it played out in a most dramatic, exciting manner - in the arena of sport, up close and personal, at that, as in being able to capture in still photos - is truly a super treat, [for me as  sports photog] just priceless fun, super exciting, unpredicatble and suspenseful- and a challenge to my skills.

But more so for others { like the athlete themselves, particularly } - It IS an emotional rollercoaster ride of sorts, with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows -  tearing at their egos and psyches to the point of tears [and even beyond].

 ---------

When the formidable DLSU Lady Spikers erected a 2 sets to nil advantage over the FEU Lady Tams  {MoA Arena, April 17, yesterday} - "A whole lotta people" [myself included] felt that the Tams were already beat - and that a DLSU-dominated 3rd Set would just be a formality of sorts - to officially set the stage for another Ateneo-DLSU  UAAP Women's Volleyball Finals Showdown.

But the Lady Tamarraws simply persevered.
They showed the volleyball faithful {inside the MoA Arean, and those in front of their LCD TVs at home} [FEU and DLSU followers alike] - a thing or two on "How to Win a lost game" {if I may describe it as that}, how to "dig" one's self out of grave, being behind 2-0, against a much, much {much} more experienced/formidable
team or       Simply  ......

..... How Not Give Up - and Eventually WIN !

 During the 5th Set - I stuck w/ my 50mm [fixed] lens to produce the few images in this post.

 Dikitan Pre !!

after Set Point at 14-13 {adv FEU}  DLSU equalized at 14-all.

Thereafter, Lady Tams simply scored two straight points - the first of which, was punctuated by FEU libero Kyla Ateinza's loss of her shoe !

Talk about Comic Relief !! ha ha ha {3 images follow below}

As Lady Tam Kyla Atienza finds her "lost" shoe !!!
{wtdf !!} .......

 Whatta unique,unexpected. funnee ! way to get a 15-14 advantage !
when does that/did that happen ??  ever ??   Tell me !

.......  as the Tams take the 15-14  Set-Point Advantage !!

On the ensuing play, I didn't attempt to capture the potential winning point by FEU, or the potential equalizer by DLSU - I scrambled to the flank to hopefully capture some Euphoric FEU athletes - that is, IF FEU would go on to make it 16-14 ....

They did - so - well, so I just managed a few snaps, possibly some measure of emotion  - whatever  ..

" Puso ! "
FEU Courtside rep Ganiel Khrishnan
couldn't hold back her tears

Euphoric Smiles

 Tears of Joy
Mary Remy "Joy" Palma's,  that is

" Quitters Never Win - Winners Never Quit "

Bra - Vo !     FEU Lady Tams    Bra - Vo !

----------------

If something, or someone truly matters -
in times of extreme adversity,
 when the odds are "humunggously stacked" against you,
when things are out of control, when everything can't seem to work out,
when one is confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles }

one might stumble, be rejected, fall,
 and fail, repetitively even

 in the process of "making things right"

Still, One Should Never Give Up

WE ALL Owe that To Ourselves -
and to those who truly matter to each of us.
