January16 - SMART Araneta
Beermen A Win Away from
Winning the Championship
SMB Takes Game #5 [93-88]
Ronald Tubid appears to be blocking a Hontiveros shot {I don't exactly recall what eventually ensued in this play, maybe 'twas a battle for the rebound or whatever}, but Ronald was not credited for any block.
'Twas Beermen Biggies June Mar Fajardo's and Arwind Santos' combined game total of 10 blocks [5 each] that prevented the Aces from scoring a potential 20-points {Dude, that is major !!]. {Alaska had only 1 block}
Even if San Miguel and Alaska entered the 4th Qtr at 71-all, and one easily pins the credit the win to the Beermeen's better execution in the 4th -Just imagine if Alaska evaded [and scored theafter] even just half of those 10 blocks - that would amount 10 point plus to the Alaska Aces - Right ? ...and San Miguel won only by 5.
Both Santos [above left] and Fajardo [above right] also drilled in 19 markers each - followed by Lassiter's 16 [Lassiter no photo]
Abueva's 24 points - Not Enough to win it for Alaska
I belie this was Abueva's last field goal [end game] which he
followed up with a "belat" - [to whom he was facing - I didn't notice]
Abueva[#8] [above left] and Baguio [#3] [above right] - being defended by
Santos [#29]and Lassiter [#3], respectively
Fact is, tho - San Miguel has been consistently having better
Field Goal Percentages than Alaska. [Game#5 was no exception]
Alice Dixon, a friend,
and TV 5 Show Biz Correspondent MJ Marfori
all rooted for San Miguel.
